Johnathon McGregor, 24, of Kyle Close, Southey Green, was found guilty of section 18 grievous bodily harm, attempted robbery and possession of a firearm, at Sheffield Crown Court today.

McGregor was arrested and charged by police in June, after an investigation was launched following reports that a 63-year-old man had been shot in the abdomen after three men had broken into his home and threatened him.

McGregor was remanded in custody to be sentenced on January 20.

Detective Inspector Paul Wilson who led this investigation has said: “McGregor broke into a vulnerable man’s home and left him with life changing injuries after shooting him totally unnecessarily.

“McGregor did not give a second thought to his victim, who has had to have half of his bowl removed and part of his leg amputated following the injuries he received.

“McGregor is an extremely dangerous man who has now been brought to justice for this most violent of crimes. I hope that the victim, who is still recovering, feels that justice has been done and that the sentencing will help him along his road to recovery, secure in the knowledge that McGregor will not be at liberty for many years to come.
