A West Yorkshire Police call handler was allegedly racially abused while answering a 999 call.

West Yorkshire Police Contact Management centre said one of their officers had written a statement due to racist abuse he received.

The contact officer was dealing with a 999 call at the time, the centre tweeted.

WYP Contact Management Centre tweeted: "Another statement done by one of our contact officers yesterday due to the racist abuse he received whilst dealing with a 999 call, which is not acceptable at all.

"Officers will be paying the suspect a visit and we have a cell waiting for them."
