Leeds education and music charity Cloth Cat is celebrating after getting a grant from the National Lottery.

The money will allow the charity to provide life changing opportunities to young people from the city through its Get Your Act

Visitors can meet the team that will be delivering the activities, play an instrument in one of the rehearsal studios, record a song or try out the very latest music production software.

People will also be able to sign up for one of the courses on offer, or for the youth music mentoring where they can form a band under the guidance of music mentors.

Project co-ordinator Shelly Johnson said: “We’ve been successfully running aspects of this project for quite a few years now, whether it was youth music mentoring through Leeds City Council, workshops at Wetherby Young Offenders’ Unit or courses for adults around the city with the Workers Education Association.

“The funding from the lottery is a godsend in that we can package it all up all for young people in the area and run this project as a whole for the next three years and really let them get their teeth in to it, developing their skills and giving them a feeling of self-worth at the same time. We’ve always felt that music is the ideal way to bring people together and be inspired.”
