The editor’s comment has nailed it! (Key lesson must be clear messaging, The YEP Says, September 7).

This particular school return is the most important in recent times. We know we need to get it right and make sure there is great and growing confidence that our learning environments are safe. I can say, without doubt, that we owe a great debt of gratitude to all school-based staff and, in trusts like ours, to colleagues in central teams, who have worked tirelessly for many weeks to be ready for this week.

There have been new Covid-19 policy statements, continuously improving Safety Risk Assessment frameworks and all our individual academies have completed a 58-page live risk assessment, signed off by governors. We have made thousands of phone calls to parents and kept in touch throughout the last six months. Our distance learning was immediate and continuous. We are not alone in this; respect to all other colleagues who have similarly left no stone unturned.

Mr Hancock - there must be no scrimping and lagging behind; let’s get this part right too. Nothing less will do!
